Successful YAGP Competition for 8 CCB Dancers

February 6, 2018 by Canyon Concert Ballet

Canyon Concert Ballet is pleased to announce its success at the recently held Youth America Grand Prix regional competition in Denver, CO on January 12-14th!

Every year, more than 5,000 dancers from across the globe audition to take part in the world’s largest ballet scholarship competition.  The Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) is an international student ballet and contemporary dance competition that awards over $250,000 annually in scholarships from leading dance schools worldwide. It has been featured in several documentaries, including First Position.  There are more than 200 YAGP alumni dancing with 50 companies around the world.

Canyon Concert Ballet took a team of 8 dancers (Kenna Freestone, Sadie Hughes, Isabella Northburg, Piper Northburg, Kennedy Polovich, Moriah Presley, Nani Ross, and Claudia Strobel) ranging in age from 13-17 who competed against the best dancers in Colorado in both the classical and contemporary categories.  All of CCB’s dancers scored in the high 80% or low 90% in both classical and contemporary.  CCB’s Isabella Northburg took 1st Place in the senior contemporary division and 2nd place in the classical division and has been invited for the 2nd time to participate in the final round of competition in New York City along with the other winners from around the world.

Alicia Laumann, Artistic Director of Canyon Concert Ballet, “Performing well among the top dancers in our region is an enormous accomplishment.  I am particularly happy with the way CCB’s dancers consistently perform well in both categories.  This demonstrates the quality and the depth of training our students are receiving.  In fact, Isabella was the only dancer in her division to place in both categories!  We are very proud of the entire team.”

Join us in congratulating these eight fabulous, talented dancers!
