Meet The Little Mermaid Prince

April 23, 2019 by Canyon Concert Ballet

Let us introduce Isaac Mueller!

Isaac will be dancing the role of the Prince in Canyon Concert Ballet’s production of The Little Mermaid. We are excited to have been able to ask him a few questions!

What I eat before a show: The night before is a meal loaded with carbs for energy the next day. Breakfast has good protein, 4 or 5 eggs, bacon, and maybe a bagel or waffle. Then the rest of the day is mostly liquids. Nothing that will sit in my stomach for a long time.

What gives me inspiration: I get inspiration from a lot of different things. Nothing very specific, it can just be something that rests well with me. One is definitely dancing at competitions with some of the best dancers in the world.

Last song I listened to: Love Me Tender by Elvis

What I’ve learned through Little Mermaid process: I have learned to be adaptable. Mainly to choreography I’m not used to.

Hometown: Littleton, CO

Dancing since: Started ballet at 14. Did ballroom for most of my life though. And tap dancing from 11-14

Favorite Role Performed: In a full length ballet, favorite role is Peter Pan. But favorite variation is from Paquita.

On my days off: Typically it’s spent studying and doing academics. But if I don’t have to do that, I love to go rock climbing or play soccer with my mates.

Pre-performance ritual: I also need at least a good barre. But I love to have a strong full class that puts me on my leg. Then every moment leading up to the performance is spent going over the material and rehearsing it in my head.

Favorite CCB memory: Doing Little Mermaid has been a great experience that I will always remember.

Advice for young dancers: Work your hardest every day and every moment. And remember that it’s a process. A long one at that. But you have to work every day for it. And find the joyful moments, because there are some. And that will make the process worth it.

Shoe type: Sansha pro 1C

What powers me as a dancer: This is my passion. It’s that simple. And when you get onto a beautiful stage and do what you love and thousands of people applaud for you, it’s unlike anything you will ever experience. So every day I am working towards and waiting for the next time I get to experience that.

Surprising fact: If I wasn’t a ballet dancer I would be a soccer player.

Superhero power: Batman is my favorite and he doesn’t have powers, so I would be just like Batman.

Meet The Little Mermaid

April 1, 2019 by Canyon Concert Ballet

Let us introduce Jenna Smith!

Jenna will be dancing the role of Little Mermaid in Canyon Concert Ballet’s production of The Little Mermaid. We are excited to have been able to ask her a few questions!

What has this role allowed you to learn about yourself?Throughout this process I have learned a lot about having patience for myself and my body and giving things the time they need to sink in. Also, how to really immerse myself in a character! It’s been so fun!

What advice would you give to aspiring young dancers?Don’t lose yourself in the “seriousness” of it all. Dance is SO fun when you let yourself go! Don’t. Give. Up.

What is your inspiration?Definitely music. I am a classical pianist and singer as well as dancer, so music has always been a big part of my life.

What is your favorite ballet?Swan Lake has ALWAYS been my favorite!
Loves?Reading, sharks, plants, Saturday morning class.
