Together, our Ballet Academy and Young Dancer Programs provide students ages 18 months through Adult, beginner through professional, with an exceptional ballet-focused dance education.
Before Entering the Ballet Academy
Our youngest students (ages 18 mos – 3 years) participate in lively Dance With Me! classes along with their favorite dance partners. In addition to a great music and dance experience, each class includes specific movements that may help fill in any missing gaps in developing neurological systems.
By ages 3 and 4, and once they are able to enjoy class without a dedicated partner, young dancers are introduced to classical and contemporary music in our Cavaliers & Prima Ballerinas classes. At from 4-6, children are generally ready to enter our Pre-Ballet 1-3 classes, which include tap rhythms, and may also participate in our Dance Explorer class, which introduces jazz, ballet, hip hop, tap rhythms, and musical theater. Ballet Academy Program
From ages 7-10, new students entering The Ballet Academy Program are generally placed into an age-appropriate Level – ages 7/8 in Ballet 1, ages 8/9 in Ballet 2, and ages 9/10 in Ballet 3. All other classes (or if an experienced dancer wishes to challenge an age-level placement) require an evaluation by one of our Instructors.
Students enrolled in The Ballet Academy often take two or more ballet classes per week. Those in Level 4 may be invited to add a pre-pointe class, and those in Levels 5 and up will advance to pointe, variations and partnering classes. Traditional ballet pedagogy is the foundation of our curriculum, but students are encouraged to include other dance forms such as Modern, Jazz, and Lyrical in their education. All classes are conducted in a professional manner, by exceptional teachers who instill discipline, safe work habits, and a respect and passion for all disciplines of dance.
Please Note: Students should expect to stay at a Ballet Level for approximately two years, especially if time off is taken over the Summer. Advancement to the next level is only upon recommendation of the current Instructor.
Beginning at age 7, students enrolled in The Ballet Academy may have the opportunity to audition for CCB’s annual production of The Nutcracker, as well as the Spring Concert. Audition opportunities will vary depending upon the roles being cast. All students enrolled at CCB may choose to participate in our end-of-year Student Showcase in early June. Dedicated dancers between the ages of 6 and 18 may choose to participate in our Youth Ensemble, which offers additional performance opportunities every year!
